Rich Troiani - General Manager

Rich Troiani brings more than 20 years of experience in the fine dining and luxury hospitality industries to his position as general manager of Waterbar, where he oversees day-to-day operations. With experience working at some of the most renowned hotel and restaurant establishments on the West Coast, Troiani’s leadership and passion for food and wine are evident.

A San Francisco native, Troiani is a natural fit for Waterbar. Raised in the restaurant business and a graduate of San Francisco State University, Troiani started with the Kimpton Group in 1989 at Kuleto’s in San Francisco. A string of successful partnerships with the Kimpton Group and MacKay Restaurants have defined his career path, including opening and managing such stellar dining spots as Jsix and Jbar in San Diego; Puccini & Pinetti in San Francisco; Tulio Ristorante, El Gaucho, Aqua by El Gaucho, Troiani, and Six-Seven at the Edgewater in Seattle; and Pazzo Ristorante and El Gaucho in Portland.

Most recently working with the Kimpton Group in San Francisco overseeing restaurant and catering operations for The Sir Francis Drake and the Argonaut Hotels, including Scala’s, the Starlight Room, and Blue Mermaid, his move to Waterbar provides Troiani with a welcome change of pace and the opportunity to explore sustainable seafood to a greater degree. Troiani is particularly pleased to stay in San Francisco in the restaurant industry, as it evokes fond childhood memories of his father’s restaurant in the Marina district and his godfather’s Florence Ravioli business in North Beach.

Throughout his career, Troiani has garnered respect and praise for his knowledge of food and wine, an appreciation and awareness of sustainability and artisan products, a passion for service, and his keen ability to inspire staff and connect with the community.

A resident of Mill Valley, he enjoys spending time with his family, travelling and cooking in his spare time.
